Floyd Mayweather

By stating that he will never compete again in professional boxing, Floyd Mayweather has made it clear.

One of the most accomplished boxers in the sport’s history is “Money.” His reputation is unquestionably assured because of his triumphs over big-name competitors like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and more.

The former champion is infamous for his multiple retirements, but he has remained true to his word since 2017. That August, Mayweather retired from fighting after defeating Conor McGregor via knockout. He hasn’t fought in a professional match despite numerous speculations since then.

That is not to suggest that he hasn’t participated in competitions. Mayweather has fought in several exhibition matches since August 2017. These matches aren’t sanctioned by a professional body and are viewed more like a sparring session than a fight.

Floyd Mayweather has maintained his fitness and income via these contests. It also fuels persistent rumors that he will come out of retirement to resume his career, which keeps the retirement discussion alive.

Now, he has addressed those rumors, saying in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph:

“My boxing career has come to an end. They retired me. Still making wise investments, getting in touch with the right people, and building money for future generations. That’s what matters to me, and I want to keep doing it.”

When is Floyd Mayweather’s next match?

Floyd Mayweather’s professional boxing career is done, but he still plans to continue competing in exhibition matches.

‘Money’ last participated in a competition in November against boxer-turned-YouTuber Deji. Predictably, the unbeaten fighter dominated “The Tank” and ended up winning by knockout in the sixth round.

The previous champion declared after the win that he intended to continue participating, although against weaker opposition. Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton exhibition rematch suggestions recently drew a response from Mayweather.

The latter matchup most likely would have been a huge battle in the United Kingdom. Floyd Mayweather has said that he will fight in England for the first time in February, even if he won’t be facing “The Hitman” next.
