Golden State’s Stephen Curry has been awarded the prestigious Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion title for this season, recognizing his remarkable contributions beyond the basketball court. The NBA announced that $100,000 will be donated to the University of San Francisco Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice on Curry’s behalf, solidifying his commitment to making a positive impact.
Stephen Curry’s off-court involvement in social justice issues extends far beyond his basketball prowess. As a co-chair of Michelle Obama’s ‘When We All Vote’ initiative, he actively promotes voter registration and education. Additionally, his participation in the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition’s ‘Freedom to Vote’ campaign showcases his dedication to advocating for the passage of crucial legislation, such as the Freedom to Vote Act. Curry’s influential role in driving social change reflects his determination to create a better and more inclusive society.
Curry also met with President Joe Biden to discuss issues of public safety during the Warriors’ visit to the White House this season to meet with him and celebrate their 2022 NBA championship.
Curry has also advocated for gender equity in sports, tried to give opportunities to frequently ignored student-athletes, and provided $6 million in funding to Howard University’s men’s and women’s golf teams. He has also campaigned to promote marginalized communities.
Curry has also assisted in providing more than 2 million meals and 500,000 books to students in Oakland, California, through a nonprofit organization he and his wife Ayesha created. He has also supported more than 1,500 teacher-led classroom literacy programs and renovated four new play areas, an article on usatoday.com reported.
The NBA has revealed the esteemed finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award, alongside Stephen Curry. Joining Curry are Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies, Tre Jones representing the San Antonio Spurs, Chris Paul from the Phoenix Suns, and Grant Williams of the Boston Celtics. As a testament to their impactful contributions to driving social change, each finalist will receive a substantial $25,000 donation from the NBA.
These funds will be directed to social justice organizations of their choosing, amplifying the impact they can make within their respective communities. This distinguished award underscores the league’s commitment to recognizing and honouring players who actively engage in the fight for social justice. With each NBA team nominating a player for consideration, these exceptional individuals epitomize the remarkable impact athletes can have beyond the basketball court.

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is attempting to reestablish their groove.
Following a difficult six-game losing streak, the Golden State Warriors have recently been up and down, winning and losing alternately. Even with Steph Curry’s exceptional play, the team’s customary backing has been absent. It’s make-or-break time for them as they take on the Sacramento Kings in their upcoming game; a loss will eliminate them from quarterfinal contention and give their opponents the advantage in West Group C. For the Warriors, it’s a critical juncture in their battle to survive the tournament.
Just like celebs have their own beauty products or colognes, basketball players also have their own line of signature shoes. One of the few NBA players who’s made a name for themselves in the basketball sneaker world is four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry.
Three years after launching the Curry brand with Under Armour, Curry has finally found his first signee with the Sacramento Kings: guard De’Aaron Fox. Full of enthusiasm, Curry officially announced the news on X, writing, “SPLASH!!!! The mission continues.…from 2020 when we launched, to this right here! Another step towards Changing the Game for Good! Welcome to the Curry Brand fam
@swipathefox🤝 Let’s get it!”

Shams Charania of The Athletic also broke the news on X: Sacramento Kings All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox is finalizing an endorsement deal with Curry Brand, becoming the first NBA player to sign with Stephen Curry’s signature line at Under Armour, sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium.
Why Fox?
According to Ryan Drew, Curry Brand’s VP and GM, Fox represented the next wave of NBA superstars and brought something unique to Curry Brand.
“He has a flair to his game and style that is rare. We’re excited about integrating De’Aaron into the design process to bring hoopers the best in on and off court styles,” Drew said of Fox, as per The Sacramento Bee.
Fox on Curry: He’s helping me build my brand
Fox commented on the partnership between Steph and Under Armour, noting that it is similar to the partnership between Jordan Brand and Nike. He also noted that he is the first player to be part of the partnership, and that alone is an honor for him.
“Some players wouldn’t want to be the first, especially under an active player, but for me, I think it’s more like I’m helping him build his brand, but also he’s helping me build my brand, so I feel like it’s great for both of us,” Fox told The Sacramento Bee.
Stephen Curry and Under Armour
Having a shoe deal with a major brand is one thing, but having your own line of trademark sneakers is another. In 2013, Stephen Curry signed a long-term deal with Under Armour, and seven years later, he launched his own shoe line with the footwear company.
Back in March 2023, he inked a new arrangement with the brand that named him the president of the Curry brand and provided him with greater resources to help build his business. While the precise details of the agreement have not been made public, it was reported by ESPN to be among the most lucrative endorsement contracts in the history of sports once the annual base salary, stock options, royalties for signature products, and incentive bonuses on the court have been taken into account.

There are 30 teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA), 29 of which are located in the United States and 1 in Canada. The NBA is largely recognized as the best men’s professional basketball league in the entire world and is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the US and Canada.
Even without all the research, it’s common knowledge that as athletes age, their performance gradually declines. The NBA player’s once bright, burning flame eventually flickers over time and, in a few years, eventually goes out. It’s where everyone is headed, some speeding ahead owing to their season-ending injuries or lackluster performances. But some, and not very often, are slower and more gradual.
One outstanding example is Stephen Curry, who’s shown us this season that despite being 35 years old, he still has a lot of juice left in his tank, ready to step up to the plate with his elite ball movement and deadly three-point shooting.
According to SportsCenter on X, the point guard “has led the Warriors in scoring in all eight games this season, the longest streak to begin a season by a player age 35 or older in NBA history.”
Curry’s points over the last eight games, as per ESPN:
Golden State vs. Phoenix: 27 points
Warriors vs. Sacramento: 41 points
Warriors vs. Houston: 24 points
Warriors vs. New Orleans: 42 points
Warriors vs. Sacramento: 21 points
Warriors vs. Oklahoma City: 30 points
Warriors vs. Cleveland: 28 points
Warriors vs. Detroit: 34 points
Curry also broke a record on Tuesday by becoming the first player in NBA history to make four or more 3-pointers in each of his first eight games of the season.
With all the accolades and championships that he’s won so far in his career, it seems that Curry still shows no signs of stopping, hungry and forging ahead on a path that appears to be lined with lush greenery.
What fans have to say
Under Sportscenter’s post, NBA fans took to the comments section to express their awe at Curry’s recent jaw-dropping performances.
One X user wrote, “Steph Curry is the perfect example of aging like fine wine! He’s got that smoothness, that finesse, and the ability to make the competition feel tipsy. Cheers to the MVP who never disappoints! 🍷🏆”

While another one wrote, “No glazing but it’s crazy to see my glorious king thriving in his 15th season. The fact that he can do the things he does while being a smaller player in the league wows me every time. Most skilled player by far, smaller than majority of players, better/greater than majority.”
Moreover, one X user also took the opportunity to answer the ongoing debate of who’s the greatest point guard of all time: “Magic Johnson vs. Stephen Curry”, writing, “There is no chance Magic Johnson is better than this man.”
