Carmelo Anthony, the former NBA player, declared that the United States men’s basketball team must ‘come to play’ in the Paris Olympic Games in order to defend their throne as Olympic champions.
Team France, who has an advantage playing in their home country, is reportedly ready to dethrone Team USA, the 16-time gold medal winner.
“As a country, as Americans, we understand that we have to come to play… It’s in France. France has a really, really good team. They’re going to be trying to protect their home court and do what they have to do for their own fans and their own country. It’s going to be exciting,” Anthony declared.
Team USA: Stronger teams. One victory
Team USA will be part of Group C, wherein they will play against a strong Serbia team, South Sudan, who are making their first Olympic appearance and the winners of a qualification event in Puerto Rico in July.
The draw was made at the headquarters of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in Switzerland.
Team France, who lost in the final game at the Tokyo Games in 2021 against Team USA by 5 points, needs to face Germany, Japan, and Latvia in Group B.
More so, in the women’s tournament, Team USA was nine-time Olympic champions and won gold at the Tokyo Games as well. They will play against Germany, Japan, and Belgium in the group stage.
With seven gold medals from the Olympics, the U.S. women’s basketball team is on a historic run that no other team is even close to ending.
The Americans have remained unbeaten in Olympic competitions since 1992, despite the rest of the world making progress. Their victory margin in the Tokyo Games was the narrowest since their winning run started at the Atlanta Games in 1996, with an average of 16 points.
The team’s short preparation period for joint practice is a serious obstacle for the United States. The team must come together quickly because they will only be together briefly before the Paris Games.
Diana Taurasi stated; “Yes, things are improving elsewhere in the world.” She added, “The years have shown that it’s not as simple as it seems.”
Diana Taurasi, 42, is a veteran of five U.S. Olympic teams and is going for a record-tying sixth gold in Paris. The American women’s basketball team is aiming to break the record set by the men, who won seven straight gold medals from 1936 to 1968.
Both teams have demonstrated their supremacy on the international scene by sharing the longest winning streak in Olympic history for gold medals in a conventional team sport.
American objective in Paris
The Americans have a forward-looking outlook and don’t get caught up in the past; instead, they focus on the here and now. Their only objective is to win in Paris; they place more importance on short-term gain than long-term dynasty preservation.
“The biggest thing you have to shut out is thinking that way every day because you will lose sight of what it takes to get there. Given that this is one of the greatest sporting dynasties in history, there is a compelling story that we cannot ignore. This is our unique voyage, our first time travelling with this group, and it’s all for one gold medal,” U.S coach Cheryl Reeve said.
Grant Williams on the 2024 USA basketball team in Paris: ‘The younger guys will be the key players’
The 12 teams competing in the men’s basketball competition at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 have an incredible amount of talent amongst them, making this one of the most competitive ever.
NBA forward Grant Williams offered a detailed analysis of the competition while acting as Olympics.com’s exclusive basketball correspondent during the competition. His observations are certain to enthrall viewers and provide a distinctive viewpoint on what this much-awaited competition will provide.
The star of the Charlotte Hornets offered his thoughts on many subjects for the competition, such as how this US Olympic team compares to the great squads from 1992 and 2008. In addition to much more, he talked about the clubs and players he is keeping a careful eye on.
An ideal combination
The men’s national squad for Paris 2024 was revealed by USA Basketball in April. It had an incredible roster that included many All-Stars, NBA and Olympic champions, and MVPs.
Basketball legends Joel Embiid, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James lead this star-studded line-up, offering an intense and intimidating presence on the field.
Williams said; “The roster revelation particularly excited me since it includes a lot of veterans, including Steph Curry, who hasn’t played basketball for his country in a long time. Additional veterans include people with a ton of international experience.”
During his remarks, Williams also emphasized that talent and athleticism are the USA’s strongest assets going into Paris.
“In contrast to Europe, the US places a lot of emphasis on developing players’ skills to score baskets, whereas in Europe, players’ abilities to pass and move are given more weight,” he said
He added; “The team’s athleticism and its players’ ability to create their shots will be extremely valuable.”
Williams answers with unflinching confidence when asked if the United States can win a gold medal at the Olympics for the fifth time in a row and for the 17th time overall.
He states unequivocally that the group has what it takes to pull off this incredible achievement. His unwavering position upholds the country’s long-lasting tradition in the sport while also showcasing the athletes’ abilities and power.
Lebron James is reportedly joining Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to multiple sources.
When it comes to basketball, there’s no doubt that Team USA is hands down the best one the world has seen so far, as it has won a total of 16 gold medals during its 19 Olympic appearances.
And, last time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, they even had the entire world at their feet when they claimed their fourth consecutive win at the Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament—a feat they hadn’t accomplished since the 1960s.
But after losing against Germany and coming off a dismal fourth-place finish at FIBA’s World Cup on Sunday, people are starting to lower their expectations from the most decorated basketball team of all time.
However, this all changed when NBA Central asked Lebron James in a tweet, “Could we see a last dance with LeBron in the Olympics?” To which Lebron replied with the 👀 emoji, hinting that he was considering the possibility.
Two days later, on Sep 11, NBA Central officially announced the breaking news on their X account: BREAKING: LeBron James plans to commit to Team U.S.A. next summer along with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum and Draymond Green, per
@ShamsCharania
“Separately, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox and Dallas’ Kyrie Irving also have serious interest in committing, league sources said.”

The Olympic postgame chatter was probably triggered by Team USA’s 113-111 loss to Germany in Friday’s FIBA World Cup semi-finals, missing out on the chance to win the World Cup for the second year in a row. Without LeBron, Team USA has stayed at the top of the basketball world rankings at the last two Olympics, but there’s no question that they’d be a better and more dangerous team with the “King” on board.
LeBron James, who has competed in three Olympics and won two gold medals, is so interested in one more Olympic Games that he’s ready to make a commitment next summer. He also reached out to a few NBA players and invited them to come to Paris with him and Team USA, according to NBA Central.
If all goes according to plan, then we could be looking at another dream team.
As it stands, the 1992 Dream Team remains the benchmark for USA basketball and is unlikely to ever be surpassed.
It was during this era that the Americans outscored their opponents by an average margin of 44 points and captured the hearts of many spectators with the presence of three of the most decorated basketball players in the history of the sport: Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird.
Other notable players on the 1992 dream team included NBA All-Star Charles Barkley, point guards Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone, as well as former NBA All-Stars Scottie Pippen and David Robinson, and Clyde Drexler, John Stockton, and Christian Laettner, among others.
With the latest news of NBA stars joining in the team USA, this has sparked an enthusiastic response among basketball fans, who are eager to witness the NBA players compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The most accomplished player in the NBA, LeBron James, along with current MVP Joel Embiid, form the nucleus of a legendary group that has been chosen to play for the US men’s basketball team in the forthcoming Olympics in Paris.
James, who missed the previous two Games, is back on the international scene with two golds and a bronze from the Olympics.
Alongside him are formidable colleagues Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers. With their statement on Wednesday, USA Basketball confirmed a roster full of superstars ready to compete for Olympic gold and excite fans across the world.
As the Paris “Dream Team” lineup is revealed, be ready for hoops excitement! This all-star team, which includes Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, Tyrese Haliburton, and Anthony Edwards, is very potent. You can count on nothing less than basketball perfection on the floor with 12 NBA All-Stars, 4 MVPs, and 6 champs!

The team faced challenges with player availability, as several notable NBA stars chose not to participate in the competition. Despite the disappointing outcome, the setback served as a catalyst for reevaluating the team’s approach and recommitting to success in future international competitions.
LA 2028: The Ultimate Test for USA’s Olympic Basketball Dominance, Says Ray Allen
Nearly 20 years ago, in Athens, the American men’s basketball team last failed to take home a gold medal. However, considering current NBA trends, two-time champion Ray Allen thinks that American dominance would be put to a lot of test in the forthcoming editions.
According to Allen, who was in India for the NBA Academy India’s basketball clinics, journalists in Mumbai. “I guarantee you that by 2028, it’s going to be stiffer for the Americans to say that we’re the best country in the world at basketball. If you look at the leagues in Europe, there are a lot of kids coming up that are going to be way better than American players. Which is a great thing for the sport,” an article on indianexpress.com reported.
