Determined to make an unforgettable exit from the WTA Tour in her final season, Danielle Collins is set to win another championship following her impressive journey to the Charleston Open semifinals.
Collin currently ranks 22 in the world, and she successfully secured her first Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open. Her winning streak goes on after winning against Elise Mertens with a record of 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals in her last concluded match, hailing her 11th consecutive win on the tour.
Last January, Collins admitted that she would retire from professional tennis in 2024 to focus on building her own family.
Collins – get out with a bang
“This is my last year, and I want to go out with a bang and just play my best tennis and do the best that I can,” she said.
Collins also declared that she has been experiencing great outcomes in her tennis in early 2024.
“I think you’re always striving to play your best tennis, and sometimes it works out well, and other times you hit bumps in the road. I think earlier in the year, and even towards the end of last year, I was playing great tennis and had some close matches,” she stated.
The 30-year-old then added: “Now I’m kind of dealing with those situations when the sets get closer a little bit better, and I feel like I’m also doing some things at the beginning of the matches, too, where I get off to a good start, and that’s working in my favour.”
Collins will now be playing against Maria Sakkari from Greece in the semifinal.
