Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, shooting up to a career-high global No. 2 and winning his first-ever Miami Open victory. Sinner eased to a 6-3 6-1 triumph, eliminating Dimitrov in just one hour and fourteen minutes after losing in the finals in 2021 and 2023.
Embracing his win, Sinner declared: “I’m really proud obviously about the result.. started off struggling a little bit this week. I haven’t had so much time to adapt on this court, so I knew in the beginning that it’s going to be tough.”
“As the tournament went on, I felt better and better. Today’s performance was really, really good. I’m just proud how I handled the situation. It was not easy, so it was a very, very good two weeks,” he added.
Sinner: A Rising Tennis Star
Sinner’s record for the year is currently 22-1, including his grand slam victory at the Australian Open. He is steadily establishing his status as one of biggest names in men’s tennis. This season, he has only lost once, to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells quarterfinals.
Sinner now has two Masters 1000 titles in his career and is the first Italian to be No. 2 in the world after his victory in Miami. Furthermore, he proclaimed that “staying in the present moment” had enabled him to achieve new heights in his career.
“What it has been, it has been. I just try to improve … and also enjoy the moment…This is a special moment. You never know if this is the last time or not…So you have to enjoy this for one day, and now a new chapter is coming, clay-court [season] is coming, so completely different. Let’s see how I will play from now on. But for sure, the hard-court season until now has been very good,” he stated.
