Rybakina

Elena Rybakina won the Stuttgart Open, her third title of the year, with little difficulty as she defeated Marta Kostyuk with a record of 6-2 6-2. Rybakina won the Stuttgart championship to go along with her victories in the Abu Dhabi Open and Brisbane International this year.  More so, after losing the San Diego Open final in March, Kostyuk faced her second final loss of 2024.

Rybakina stated after her success: “I want to congratulate Marta of course, been a great tournament, great matches you played here, you’re playing really amazing and hopefully we’ll play many more finals.”

When her opponent broke serve again in the opening game of the second set, Kostyuk was at a loss for words and fell to her knees, looking helpless. With Kostyuk trailing 3-2 in the second set, Rybakina, the world number one, showed no compassion and forced her sole break point of the match.

No comeback for Kastyuk with Rybakina

This was Kostyuk’s moment if there was to be a comeback, but the 21-year-old appeared on the verge of tears as she missed three break opportunities and kept her head turned to her coach in the stands in dissatisfaction.

Rybakina held serve then broke again to make it 5-2 to leave her serving for the rest of the match.  She defeated Swiatek with ten aces, so she didn’t need to hit any more to beat Kostyuk.

Even in defeat, Kostyuk declared: “It’s an amazing event and I hope to be back here every year, thank you.”
