Caroline Wozniacki started her professional career in 2008 and has since amassed a staggering total of 30 WTA titles to her name. She’s also reached as high as Number one in the WTA rankings for a total of 71 weeks.
Although she decided to leave tennis behind in 2020 in order to start a family with former NBA player, David Lee, Wozniacki announced earlier this year that she’s coming back to the sport, a decision that, according to her, was made by her and her family.
Wozniacki proud of Danish players
This week, Wozniacki attended the second edition of the Tennis Fest held in Mexico City. And in her interview, Wozniacki took the opportunity to advise the youth and tell the viewers about how proud she is of the newest generation of Danish players.
She said that while she doesn’t really believe in sacrifices, she claims that people make their own choices for the decisions that they’re going to make and that it’s going to put them in a position that they want to be in.
“I feel like I made choices along the way that could make me the best tennis player I could possibly be. I’m very proud of that. That’s something I want to teach young kids and also my kids,” Wozniacki said, via TV Azteca Deportes.
She also said that if they continue to work hard and love what they do, then “anything is possible.”
And hailing from Denmark, a country that, according to her, had zero tennis traditions in the past, “it was special to see young players come through for the country”. One example is World No. 8 Holger Rune, one of the top players in Denmark at the moment. At just 20 years old, the teenager has already defeated Novak Djokovic, the 24-time grand slam champion and current world number one, at the 2022 Paris Masters.
Wozniacki then ended her statement by expressing her hope that this would mark the start of a new Danish tradition and that many more kids from her country would grow up to become tennis players.
