The Denver Broncos have opted not to exercise Zach Wilson’s rookie contract fifth-year option, per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette. If exercised, Wilson would have been guaranteed $22.408 million in 2025.
This decision now allows Wilson to become a free agent in the upcoming offseason. Despite high expectations when selected second overall in 2021 by the Jets, Wilson’s performance has fallen short, labeling him as a historic bust.
The Jets sought alternatives, including signing Aaron Rodgers in 2023, but Wilson reclaimed his starting role after Rodgers’ injury. The NFL offseason promises intrigue as Wilson and the Broncos navigate their next moves.
Jets Transfer Wilson’s Struggle
Zach Wilson had moments of brilliance, but he was inconsistent with the New York Jets, finishing the 2023 season with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games. In the eleven games he started, the Jets could only muster a 4-7 record. Wilson finished with a 57% completion percentage, 6.3 yards per attempt, and 185.1 yards per game across his 34 games in New York.
He also had 23 touchdowns versus 25 interceptions. To give the potential yet-developing quarterback a fresh start, the Jets traded Wilson to the Broncos last week.
The Broncos made a risk-free trade of a late-round choice to get Wilson in an intriguing move. Wilson adds a dynamic element to a team that was led by career backup Jarrett Stidham when he arrived. Bo Nix, an Oregon quarterback, was selected in the 12th round of the draft, so it’s unclear who will start right away.
If Nix takes some time to get used to the new environment, Wilson will have the opportunity to show off his skills and increase his worth before he becomes a free agent.
The NFL is towards a crucial stage as the preseason games come to a close: roster cuts. All clubs are getting ready to introduce the 53 players who have been selected to compete in the forthcoming season’s gridiron matches, as there is much expectation in the air.
At this point, there will be a frenzy of activity as players locate new homes, sign contracts with other squads, or say goodbye to the spotlight of the league. These choices are driven by the unrelenting desire for perfection, which shapes the paths of both seasoned professionals and budding stars.
Players are routinely released or waived in the dynamic world of professional sports for reasons ranging from injury to intense competition in particular positions. Some are able to restart their careers with new teams, while others spend years impressing the 32 teams in the league via practice squads in an effort to get back on the pitch.

Arch Manning’s most recent $2.9 million NIL wealth outnumbers NFL talents like Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence
According to a recent tweet from NFL Rookie Watch, Arch Manning’s NIL deal is expected to earn him $2.9 million this year, which is a remarkable turn of events. This astounding amount surpasses Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals’ $1,010,000 basic salary by a wide margin, signaling a turning point in the relationship between collegiate success and wages in the professional sphere.
The emergence of Arch Manning’s enormous NIL agreement, which casts a significant shadow over even seasoned NFL players, changes the financial landscape of sports profits in an unanticipated way. With the Jacksonville Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence is poised to command the field, but his base salary of $940,000 stands in stark contrast to Manning’s enormous off-field windfall.
Odell Beckham Jr., known for his charismatic flare and one-handed catches, sees his impressive $1,165,000 salary dwarfed by the size of Manning’s rich bonus. It is evidence of the fact that the game is no longer only played on the field of opportunity, but also in boardrooms where opportunity still exists, where traditional player contracts now share the spotlight with game-changing NIL agreements.

Welcome to the NIL era, where collegiate athletes may leverage their fame, good looks, and charm to land lucrative gigs. By monetizing their image rights through marketing and promotions in this cutting-edge environment, they can achieve great success while pursuing both academic and athletic greatness.
A Fox Sports report revealed that Manning signed his first NIL contract with trading card juggernaut Panini America in a game-changing move. A prized memento from the journey of Peyton and Eli’s accomplished nephew, a former five-star recruit who is now shining with the Texas Longhorns, Manning, who is new to the University of Texas and football glory, takes center stage on a signed trading card.
